OUR STORY
The Dignity Foundation Trust was founded by a passionate Motswana woman who would like to empower and improve the lives of the underprivileged girl-child and young woman, in recognising the needs and disadvantages experienced by them in multi-faceted ways.
Of primary concern, and the seed that inspired the Dignity Foundation, was the humiliation and indignity experienced when a girl stains her clothes or misses school just because she does not have a sanitary pad to use. Of equal concern, though, is the use of unhygienic alternatives such as mattresses, leaves and stones!
The Dignity Foundation believes fundamentally that every child has the right to go to school. Missing school is not an option. And the reason is inexcusable. We intend that there should be no girl-child in this country, who suffers the indignity of missing school due to not having sanitary pads. This is a permanent commitment.
We also believe that a child has the right to be a child and therefore rape/sexual molestation, physical and emotional abuse, are not acceptable and should never be the norm for a child. A child should remain innocent and has the right to be protected.
The Foundation encourages and enables people to celebrate womanhood by bringing awareness of what it is to be a woman in all her phenomenal-ness and giving the opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of the girl-child. It is our dream that every girl-child will grow into a phenomenal woman – confident, poised, self-respecting, self-assured. These are the future leaders of our country.
